NATO and the Changing Security Environment

The Center for Strategic Analysis Spectrum held a roundtable discussion “NATO and the Changing Security Environment” with the participation of William Lahue, a NATO Liaison Officer in the South Caucasus, and Head of the NATO Liaison Office in Georgia, and leading Armenian analysts. Among the discussed questions were the decisions of NATO Wales Summit regarding the regional developments, prospects for Armenia-NATO relations. The challenging security situation in the South Caucasus and beyond was also examined and evaluated.

The Center for Strategic Analysis holds an open discussion of security issues concerning the South Caucasus and its neighboring states among the experts and researchers from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, the USA, Russia, Turkey, Iran, Great Britain, Spain, and Belgium. At the forefront are themes such as the security environment and Euro-Atlantic, and European prospects for partnership and cooperation in the South Caucasus, the geopolitical gaps, and the main trends of development in each regional state.

This  event is sponsored by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

The Elections in Georgia and its Implications for the Region

The Center for Strategic Analysis with the support of the Embassy of Poland in Armenia holds a roundtable discussion “The Elections in Georgia and its Implications for the Region.” Among the participants were leading Armenian political scientists, historians, military experts, economists, and journalists. George Tarkhan-Mouravi, co-Director of the Institute for Policy Studies, introduced the developments in Georgia after the parliamentary elections and analyzed some political trends in the state and in the region.

The experts discussed internal processes in Georgia, the developments in bilateral Georgian-Russian relations, and their influence upon the regional security.

After the discussion there was a presentation of the fifth volume of the anthology “Regional Security Studies,” recently published by the Center for Strategic Analysis.

The event received broad media coverage.

New Challenges to the Regional Security

On February 7, 2012, the Marshall Center Armenian Alumni Association in cooperation with the Center for Strategic Analysis SPECTRUM, George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies and with the support of the U.S. Embassy in Armenia holds its fifth seminar “New Challenges to the Regional Security.”  The participants discuss the dynamics of the security environment in the South Caucasus, the role of the external actors, the influence of the developments in the Broader Middle East, as well as the impact of the energy sources and the world economic crises upon the developments in the region.
Among the participants were the MC Alumni, who represent the MoD, MFA, the Parliament, MES, Police. The Ambassadors and officials from embassies in Armenia from nations that participate in the Marshall Center programs also attended the seminar.

On October 2-3, 2006, Center for Strategic Analysis SPECTRUM holds its fourth International Conference “The South Caucasus – 2006: the Main Trends of Development, Threats and Risks.”

Among the themes discussed at the Conference – evaluation of development of the states of the region within the Euro-Atlantic structures and perspectives of partner relations with NATO, European Union, Council of Europe, the issues of regional security – sources of instability and the ways to overcome, as well as expert assessment of the role of each state of the South Caucasus.
